Default Boredom leads to cam experiments!!

Ok..... So I have way too much time on my hands now. I dont drive my truck everyday anymore cause I got a new work truck. Soooooo. Im thinking about trying a new, bigger cam for the hell of it. Im getting the tranny worked over in a few weeks. Also gonna add a TCI SF3000. Anyways, friend of mine has a TR224 on a 112 he wants to take out of his car. Anybody think this is too much for a 5.3 thats almost but not quite a daily driver? Or would I be better off with a TR224 on a 114LSA?

Come on cam guys do your stuff!! Good or bad idea?

People said it was way to damn much for a 4.8, but I think 01 Thunder might beg to differ.

I say go for it ... what have you got to loose?

For just experimenting I'd think it would be fun. It should really hold power out further. You can see by Dan's dyno chart, he could easily shift @ 6800rpm. I'd guess you could expect about the same.

I'd be more interested in seeing a TR220 @ 112 set -4, w/ a 112 icl/ecl

Will it be a total turd out of the hole without the verter?? I can get it all tuned up at a shop here in town so thats taken care of. The shops tuned quite a few T-Rex's in LS1's. Im assuming there is gonna be a pretty hefty difference in power compared to my puny 212/218. Are the Comp 918's a wise choice or should I shy away from them at all costs?

I have the 918s. No complaints here. I'm anxious to see what the 5.3L can do with that cam. We've seen the 4.8L and the 6.0L, so let's see the 5.3L! It does like a nice size converter, though. I've really got to get my shift points up to around 6500. The truck is still pulling hard when it shifts.

What is the lift on the cam. If your ls6 springs are 02+, they are good for a 560 lift.

224 on the 112... Do it

With proper tunning my 226 112 cam had perfect daily driving manners. No stumble, nothing. Very lumpy idle which was great for stoplight intimidation

This was with the 226 cam and basic bolt-ons and a TT3000. remember it's a 4x4 :p

You dont think there would be much difference in the 114 versus the 112? Ill have a stall no matter what. I wonder what I could get out of my truck with this cam. Seems to work wonders with the f-body guys! Nice vid of the run!!

Tiburon,

TR224/224 .563/.563 112 LSA or 114

Way different cams. Not only the lsa, but also duration. You can tell by peak lift numbers.
