Bought 05 RCSB 4.8, got some ?'s

Default Bought 05 RCSB 4.8, got some ?'s

Well traded in the HEMI finally and got close to what I always wanted. Couldn't find a RCSB 5.3 so I settled with the 4.8. Now what would be some good mods first. It came with 3.73s and posi, and a flowmaster. I live in West Texas, which means our DA is always around 6,000ft. This thing is nothing compared to the HEMI, but it has a hell of alot more potential!!!!! It probably runs around a mid 16 right now, I want the 13's all motor with the 4.8! What are the best mods that get the most BANG for the buck? Tune? Headers? What kind, and how much!

pacesetter long tubes 400 shipped
cam (you can get one for around 200 shipped)
918's 145
tune (nelson) 500
electric fans 100
underdrive pulley 100
different muffler 100
shift kit not sure on the price 100 at most though
converter trailblazer one is around 200
prob. missing some things though

Fogle04 pretty much hit the list of things I'd recommend...I'd throw in a CAI to help it breathe in also. You could always mod the factory airbox if you're on a budget.

build your own cai. less than 100. im to poor to even do that though. i got a factory one on mine

04 hemi me and u r in the same prediction i was l;okkin for an 05 5.3 3.73 posi but no luck saw a used 05 4.8 with whells lowering in the rear cowl induction hood so i jumped on knowing i dont have to spend buying those things lookin for in the 4.8 as well i posted a thread askin the same go find it tough dont know how put the thread link in here sorry oh just orderd some long tube headers with ory pipe and electric cutout for about 700 shipped go check the sponsor sectionunder pacesetter headers and u should find a good deal

13's all motor isnt going to be cheap..
but if you want it bad enough you can...
first off..
get you a 2800 or higher converter.. (is the posi an aftermarket posi or a G80?)
since you have 3.73 gears you are fine there..
have the transmission modified to a beefed 4l65E ( and make sure they dont skimp, should run you 2700 or more... anything less and your going to get screwed..)
LT would help you more than shorties, but shorties will get you there as well.

Transgo shift kit
billit servos
and a tune.. dyno would be the ultimate way to go.
and logging software would also help you out.
this should get you there with ideal conditions..

Thanks guys. I have already talked to Texas Speed and they said they will dyno tune it for me after I get the cam, they also are going to give me a pretty good deal on some long tubes. So a Trailblazer stall will work in mine? What stall is it? I definatley need something for low end, this thing is a gut-less wonder off the line! Does anyone have the Torquer cam in a 4.8? Just wondering if it helped out alot on the low end?

Easiest way is to remove the torqueless wonder out and drop in a LQ9. I have a buddy (Rollin20's) that did this with some LT's ran 13.9 with 20's on the truck

What Thunder, no cam?

04Hemi - the 4.8 lacks cubic inches for low end torque. A cam will not make up for that AFAIK and will likely make it worse. You need a cam for mid and high end and a stall to make up for the weak low end. From what I have read a TB stall may be too low for the goals you have. Check with 01 Thunder he has been through it all.

OR...as mentioned in the GEN III article post, you can convert your 4.8L into a 5.3L. You can use the same block, pistons, and rings.
I'm not sure what all else is different, but that may be a great start.
At that point at least the you will already be working inside the motor to change all other appropriate items.
