Warm up means just till the needle moves not operating temps right?

The first time starting, no. You want to know your cooling system isn't air trapped and is at proper level which requires the thermostat opening. Plus that is the time for checking for oil, coolant, atf, power steering or whatever else leaks.

you really need to make sure your coolant system is working correctly before going WOT. just try to get into it pretty deep within the first 15 minutes or so if everything is looking good.
