Broken EXHAUST manifold bolts: Why GM, WHY ??
Picked up a nice clean Suburban.
4 broken off exhaust bolts.... Two on each side.
WHY ?
What are they made of Pot metal ?
Is it just the cast iron manifold's expansion that does this ?
My other two LS rigs with Gibson stainless shorty headers seem to keep their bolts on......
.
Any particular trick to keeping bolts intact ?
What happens when I hang 25 pounds of TURBOcharger on the passenger side ? Do I need to fabricate an additional support bracket to the engine BLOCK ?

I brace every turbo and turbo manifold I install. Whether import or LS or somewhere in between. Manifolds always crack at the worst time, like in the middle of Tx2k lol
I don't know what causes LS's to pop mani bolts, but swapping to the "stud" style retention also fixes the problem for me. Had great luck getting them out with a mig welder when they are too flush to grab with vise grips

I think it is the grade bolt GM uses.

Ah
I believe this isn’t probably manufacture specific though. Probably everyone has this issue. Just the heating and cooling of the bolt
