budget mods for a 4.8l
i was just wondering what type of budget mods would be bestfor this motor i have over 100,500 miles on the truck and have a stillen air intake a throttle body space and a magnaflow cat back that exits thru the side of the bed in front of the back tire. i took it on the hot rod power tour and averaged almost 20 miles to the gallon but the other day i was hanging with some hemis and if they wanted to they could smoke my little motor in an ext cab fullsize lol. im just not sure where to start and money is an issue so i cant blank check something if anyone can help me at least point me in a direction give me some ideas i would appreciate it. dan

higher stall converters can make a 4.8L fun. if you even notice the truck really makes decent power at about 3500 RPMs, anything to get you in that area (like around a 3,000-3,200) faster would make a world of difference. Electric fans help it rev quicker without the drag of the clutch fan. On top of that maybe a small cam. You could allways upgrade to a 6.0 fairly easy also, but that's a choice you'll have to make.

A full-size e cab is allot of weight for that little motor to push.
Give us an idea of what kind of budget dollars you want to put in to it.
I'm sure some of us will kick it around and see if it is worth putting it in to the 4.8
or save it up for more cubes in a 5.7 or a 6.0 to push you a little faster down the road.
