Buying 2500
Friend of mine visited a dealer and looked at the new 2500. 6.0 Litre. What do you guys think of these as work trucks? Its the baseline truck, only rear wheel drive, simple interior, 4 door.

Good truck!
I like mine! Some of the reasons I bought it over a RCSB 5.3 are: IFS (adjustable) vs Coil springs (non-adjustable), recirulating ball steering gear vs rack & pinion, stronger frame, bigger engine, heavy duty rear end, front grill design, stance, price ( was only a little more than a fully loaded 1500 vs a base 2500 HD). I had a 2000 RCSB and it just rode too much like a car and not like a truck. These trucks are made for work.
Downsides: Gas milage (still better than a BB), truck like ride (don't expect a smooth ride like a 1500).
It's my daily driver during the week and tow #2300 trailer on weekends. Handles my little trailer like it's not even there. It yanked my 1500 all over the road.
If you can afford the gas, I say go for it.

I like mine. It has been a pretty good truck so far. To me, my truck rides awesome especially compared to my old lifted powerstroke on 39's. Just make sure your buddy gets 4.10 gears and a limited slip rear. With stock tires your buddy should be able to pull just about anything he could ever want.
