Default cam for 2001 5.3

I currently have the 2001 Z06 Vette cam (the year before they required upgraded springs). What is the biggest cam I can go to without having to upgrade springs, pushrods, etc...? Thanks.

It's recommended that you change springs anytime you do a cam swap. At minimum, Comp 918 singles or similar. Which springs you should use depends on the lift and aggressiveness of the lobes. Different springs are rated for different lift.

Go with at least the ls6 springs as long as your cam lift does not exceed 560.

Why wouldnt you want to spend the extra $100 for a little insurance?? Id get the 918's either way.

I agree, just go with the 918's in case you ever want to go with a bigger cam.

Well, what are his goals? He needs to put forth some requirements (and be clear on them) before he will get a worthwhile recommendation. Low-end torque? Top-end power? Best E.T.? Driveability? Different cams for each application.

Goal: get my big *** truck down the track real fast (12's, I'm .5 away right now at 13.56)

Application: daily driver truck/long road trips/weekend track warrior

Powerband: I'd guess 3-6000

So basically, I want a race truck with good gas mileage (don't we all?).

Edit: I also currently use nitrous, and will maybe go turbo in the future.

Edit Again: Is the GM Hot Cam kit worth a crap? And is it better than the '01 Z06 cam (I haven't found the specs on the Z06)?

I've been running my stock springs for 6 weeks now wit hno problems. My cam is 218/229 113LSA .560 lift. Right now i'm shifting it at 6500rpms and will be upping it more soon. The stock springs are good for .550 lift acording to Chevy.

If your not planing on putting in a stall i suggest staying around a 220/220.
