so with cam rods, springs and timing chain im looking at a blown tranny within the near future if not a broken rear end to go with it

I wouldn't be so definitive about it.

According to everyone here my 145k mile stock 60e should have blown up a long time ago with the LQ9

you should be alright with the stock tranny and rear. it'll take more then a cammed 5.3 to kill the rear. for the tranny I would get a towing shift kit and a larger tranny cooler, most 4l60e are killed from heat. but when you have the money I would upgrade.

Eventually both the g-80 and tranny will fail. That doesn't mean you have to fork out a ton of money before this happens though.
The other mods are just next steps kinda like the tranny/rear.
Take her a mod at a time but remember once you add some power you will soon want more and the mod bug will bite ya hard.

the mod bug hit hard when i got the truck just certain things like money have slowed the process so far
