Lots of ideas, they all involve new springs.

What are you looking to spend and what work are you willing to do?

stock 5.3 stick to the 212/218... but what r u looking for.. just sound or performance as well.. if ur planning on going faster ur better off doing all the rest of the upgrades and then depending on what u have chose a cam... ur gonna want the stall also.. 5.3s are pigs out the hole and i believe a stall on its own makes more improvement then a cam.. but like i said its all depending on what u want.

Even with the 212/218 he'll need springs unless he gets it custom ground with a super low lift. He'll be able to get away with Yellows pretty easy with that cam though.

ye its more the sound than hp for me, l like the choppy sound but the hp is just a plus for me, i was told the less the lsa the choppier the sound, but i wanst sure if the lift or exhaust had anything to do with it

You're going to have to do springs for sure. Hardened pushrods is always a good idea, not required, but it can save headaches later down the road.

there's no easy way to due this either you go in head first or you stay away! with a cam comes springs ,tune , then you run into problems , rear end , tranny ,ect.... ., so like i said go in head first or stay away , not trying to be an *** , but unfortunatly i learned that the hard way!
