cam for 5.3

You can do one without the other, but i wouldnt recommend it. What are the specs on your "custom" rear end and tranny? If you want that sound a 112- 224/224 general thunder racing cam will do the trick. But again if you are watching these YOUTUBE videos it alot of our trucks on the forum here. As we keep saying you cant really just do a cam without pushrods, stall converter, springs. ETC.

the transmission came in a package type deal, not real sure the exact specs, but something to do with new plates, new clutch pac, 13 vain rotor, the shell was replaced with a beast sun shell, and valve body got a new trans-go shift kit

If he just wants a good sound I say go with a the 212/218 low lift cam with some yellow springs and hardened pushrods and get a reworked tb stall. If he shops right he can probably do all that in the $1000 range. If I'm not mistaken I think someone is selling a 212/218 cam in the classifieds section

The trailblazer stall isn't even big, you can hardly tell it's in there.
Ever consider the hot cam? There's not enough gain from it to brag about but it sounds wicked and they're pretty cheap and you can still run yellow springs with it
