Default cam for a 5.3 tahoe

Well, i have been searching the site to find the answers but i figure i will just start a new thread. I know this is a beaten to death subject here at PT.net so bear with me guys.

I want a cam in my 5.3 04 tahoe Z71.

I do 80% of my driving on the highway so i cant afford to lose a ton of top end.

I obviously want to add some power, and get this hog off the line a little better.

I would really prefer not to change out the lifters and springs if possible.


With all that info, am i going to be able to get a cam done on this truck to meet those needs? What size? any brand recommendations?

id say look at the Comp 206/212 and the 212/218 and you will have to upgrade the springs!

i have to ask though, do you have a tune yet? if not get that before the cam as that will help alot and once you install a cam it will need to be retuned.

yes i have a BB tune and some bolt-ons... working on round two, cam, headers, e-fans,

I'd say the 206/212 if you want some stronger low end off idle increase and decent all over gains. Maybe look into the 212/218 for some better mid to upper gains. Then there's the TR 220/220 option but you will lose alittle low end perhaps with stock stall but make up for it in the upper range definitely.

Lobe Seperation Angle, the tighter the lsa, the harder it will lope, a 112 will lope harder than a 114 or 116. It also has something to do with the ramp rate of the cam i think, im no expert, someone who knows will chime in soon!
