going into a 02 5.3. which cam would be better?
specs:
98 LS1-- 198/209 .500/.500 119.5
02 LQ4-- 196/207 467/.479 116

 

actually the 2001+ lq4/lq9 cam and the 2001+ ls1 is the same...

 

would it be worth the effort? I was wondering this when I saw a LQ4 cam off of here (and ebay) for like $1.00.

 

Although the 98 cam has better duration and lift numbers, the lsa of the 01+ cam is going to be better for your truck. The 2K vette cam is the best all around stock replacement being that is has the 98 duration/lift on a tighter lsa.

 

Cam swaps are a good bit of effort, and I would just get the "right" cam (for your application and driving preferences) in the first place if I were going to go through the trouble. Just my .02, but I wouldn't even think about either of those cams even if they were free. I have heard of someone on here claiming like 25hp from a stock LS1 cam, but I can't confirm it, and I have a tuff time believing that would be a "normal" hp increase with that cam.
