Default cam choice for my new set up

MODS NOW:
2000 GMC 5.3 ECSB 4WD
Flex-a-lite electric fans,
160 degree stat
pacesetter LT and ORY pipe
3in hooker Aerochamber dumped over axle with 3inch cutout,
K&N FIPK,
Underdrive pulleys,
nelson's tune,
fuddle 3200 convertor

has to fit this criteria:
  • has to have power to for towing a trailer (2000lbs) at 2000 rpms with out having to drop gears all the time. i want to be able to give it gas and have it start picking up speed sorta like stock or better.
  • it has to lope alot
  • be able to have nelson tune it.
  • take me from a 15.3 with a tb stall and edelbrock shorties to somewhere in the low 14's if not faster keep in mind i will have a bigger stall and lt headers with a cutout.
i was thinking
Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - 220/220 .551/.551 112 LSA 1500-6500 RPM Power Band. Computer Tuning Required with automatic transmission cars. A very well balanced camshaft that makes excellent power across the entire RPM range.

what does everyone think.

With a 3000+ stall speed wont you lose everything below? I did, but make up for it at the top.

It will feel a little bit looser-but not too much, and it will take a little bit more throttle too, until the TC locks.
I'd look at the TB stall or a TT2600 for towing and a trans cooler.

i got a tb stall right now with a cooler, i know what its like to give it more gas, but im looking for something that i will shave to give it gas but it will have power to move the truck nicely with out downshifting all the time

That cam is too big for your heavy truck and wanting to tow without any trouble and being stock driveable. I had a 222/224 112lsa in my old 5.3 and it lost some power down low when cruising down the highway. It wasnt exactly a towing worthy setup. What you are asking of a cam is too much IMO. You arent going to get a cam that lopes like it sounds like you are wanting with a small duration cam like what you need to be able to tow. I would get the ever popular 212/218 comp grind. That cam wont give you any lope or very little but will give you a good power gain and still be close to stock for pulling.

ok how bad will it be if i tow. im not towing very heavy things just a 2 place snowmobile trailer with 2-3 quads on it. if i come up to an small incline at 2200rpms am i going to have to defently drop a gear inorder to keep from dropping more then 10 mph? because if thats the cse i will just start giving it more gas b4 i get to the hill, and compensate for it.

i tow about 3-4 times a year, and only go about 300 miles one way.

if im not towing how would it be as far as street driving?

im willing to give up some towing because i dont really tow that much and this year i probably will just put my quad in the back of my truck and not even pull a trailer to the dunes, so i guess i can forget the whole towing thing just as long as it is posible to tow with it, and not be a huge burden.

You could tow with the 220 cam I think but nothing big and it will have to drop a gear to maintain speed atleast it would have in my truck.

what about something a little smaller. i can get a custom grind comp cam for $345. somethign like a 218/218 .551/.551 112lsa or even a 216/216 .551/.551 112lsa. doesn't the lsa have to do with tuneing and how much it lopes?
