cam choice for my new set up
MODS NOW:
2000 GMC 5.3 ECSB 4WDFlex-a-lite electric fans,
160 degree stat
pacesetter LT and ORY pipe
3in hooker Aerochamber dumped over axle with 3inch cutout,
K&N FIPK,
Underdrive pulleys,
nelson's tune,
fuddle 3200 convertor
has to fit this criteria:
- has to have power to for towing a trailer (2000lbs) at 2000 rpms with out having to drop gears all the time. i want to be able to give it gas and have it start picking up speed sorta like stock or better.
- it has to lope alot
- be able to have nelson tune it.
- take me from a 15.3 with a tb stall and edelbrock shorties to somewhere in the low 14's if not faster keep in mind i will have a bigger stall and lt headers with a cutout.
i was thinking
Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - 220/220 .551/.551 112 LSA 1500-6500 RPM Power Band. Computer Tuning Required with automatic transmission cars. A very well balanced camshaft that makes excellent power across the entire RPM range.what does everyone think.

It will feel a little bit looser-but not too much, and it will take a little bit more throttle too, until the TC locks.
I'd look at the TB stall or a TT2600 for towing and a trans cooler.

That cam is too big for your heavy truck and wanting to tow without any trouble and being stock driveable. I had a 222/224 112lsa in my old 5.3 and it lost some power down low when cruising down the highway. It wasnt exactly a towing worthy setup. What you are asking of a cam is too much IMO. You arent going to get a cam that lopes like it sounds like you are wanting with a small duration cam like what you need to be able to tow. I would get the ever popular 212/218 comp grind. That cam wont give you any lope or very little but will give you a good power gain and still be close to stock for pulling.

i tow about 3-4 times a year, and only go about 300 miles one way.
if im not towing how would it be as far as street driving?
im willing to give up some towing because i dont really tow that much and this year i probably will just put my quad in the back of my truck and not even pull a trailer to the dunes, so i guess i can forget the whole towing thing just as long as it is posible to tow with it, and not be a huge burden.
