Default cam - convert

I have noticed most of the members with cams seem to be in the 210-220
range , and are using 3000 rpm or higher stall . Is there a reason why ?
It just seems like to much stall for a cam with that small of a duration .

my guess is that the smaller cubed 5.3's wont eat a cam like the 5.7/6.0's will.

WEIGHT

fbodies weigh 3500 pounds.. we weigh from 4500-5500

our cams are small and the stalls are also. Fbodies that run 230+ cams need big stalls so it all balances out back to the weight factor

understand on the smaller duration cam to help keep the low to mid torq .
but I wouldn't consider a 3000 rpm stall small

I think he was talking about the stock stall, they are only a 1500rpm...

You have to remember that even with a "baby cam" and a good set of springs these engines will spin to 6500rpm....a 3000rpm stall isn't all that unreasonable when you can spin that high

no it isn't but the larger the stall the more heat it create in normal driving
conditions and towing .that is what my concern is . I geuss what I really want to know is will my stock convert suffice with a cam around a 220/224 duration?
