Default Cam experts...How about Crower?

Crower has been making quality valvetrain components for a long time, but I never see any posts or profiles concerning Crower's LS1 cams. Why not? How about their 208/216, 514/514, 114 lsa in a 5.3? I have decided on all my mods, intake, headers, exhaust, fans, LS1 Edit, valve springs, stall, etc but I still can't come to a conclusion on a cam. I thought for sure that I wanted the Comp 212/218, 522/529, 114 lsa until I remembered Crower. They are so old school, my dad was using them in his race cars in the 50s and 60s. He is no longer here so I don't have his expert opinion to rely on. I am very satisfied with my Lunati 221/558/114 in my 2000 SS. Someone please help me finally decide on a cam for my truck. It's a 2001 ECSB with a 5.3. I just want good driveablity with a noticeable performance improvement over stock. When I want to go really fast, I just get my SS out of the garage!!

I think that Crower cam would be nice in a truck but it could use some more lift IMO.

Call Allen @ FutralMotorsports, he can get you a custom LS1 cam made.

Hey 99silveradoSS,
Do you like the Crane you are using? Do you have any idling issues? Did Alan recommend that cam for you or how did you choose that particular cam? Is he in Texas and what's his #? Thanks. Anyone else have LS1 Crower experiences?

Yeah Crower has been around since the good ol' days. If you are going through the trouble of a cam swap make it worth while.

A 206/216 isn't too big. I'd get up to at least 212* intake duration. The 114lsa will keep your idle somewhat smooth (if you are a greasemonkey like myself, you can tell it will have a cam) and vac for the brakes.

Lift around .520-.550 is fine. You'll need better springs and may as well toss in hardened pushrods.

Hope that helps...
