Default Cam help

I have a 2006 Silverado 4.8 nv3500 looking to install a btr stage 3 or 4 truck cam, and headers. I will still use it as a truck hauling fire wood etc. Should I go smaller with the cam? And anything else I should be doing when I do it?

I'd definitely go smaller than stage 4! The stage 3 is still pretty rowdy for a 4.8 and with big tires even with the manual trans it will feel slower down low, I'd do the stage 2 212/218.

BTW nice truck and manual trans FTW!

I'll cross my fingers it's got 4.10s because it needs it.

Definitely looking at a gear swap before a cam swap if it isn't 4.10s lol

With the 35" tires id go a minimum of 4.10 gear. Go lower to a 4.30 if you want.

Even with a 4.30 gear and 35" tires with that transmission your still only 2100 rpms at 70mph.

I see too many trucks come in with a cam that is wayy to large for the setup. This summer had a Truck with a LQ9 and the BTR stage 4 cam or something like that. WIth 36" mud tires and 3.42 gears along with a Stock 4l60 converter it was guttless. After fixing the tune up where it would idle, the 0-40mph was a little over 7 seconds

The 212/218 would be a great option tho, even if you dont do gears yet.

Lmao I guess that guy didn't pay attention in truck building 101. 0-40 in 7 seconds, might as well have been on a bicycle
