Default Cam help for my new 6.0!

I just got me a 6.0L motor and figured while its sitting here on the floor I might do a cam and springs swap. I am thinking about the Z06 cam. I don't want anything too radical, and I am hoping to use something that won't require any tuning. I don't have LS1 edit, and it will probrobally be a while before I get it. What kind of HP increase could I expect to achieve with the Z06 cam and springs? And anybody have any other suggestions for a mild cam? Anybody have anything good or bad to say about the underdrive crank pulley from ASP? Thanks in advance.

Hey bad, zo6 sounds great, not sure on the gains, but what about headers after this? I want to do a cam and fans and asp at the same time, since it all has to come out anyway. Just a thought. Where did you pick up the 6.0? You work in Jessup right? I live there and I kinda remember talking to you about where you work or something like that. Anyway, Good luck.

I bought one of those 6.0L motors from Jon Barrett. He has one on Ebay right now. Check the truck classified section for a whole thread on "Jon Barrett 6.0L" it will give you all the specs. I just picked it up today at Conway trucking right off RT 1 in Jessup. I figured while its out, I'd throw a cam and springs on it, maybe an underdrive pulley, and maybe some headers. I really want the FLP/Dynatech's with the Y pipe, but they almost cost as much as the motor did!! I may hold out on the headers in case the Turbo Fairy comes! Its only a pipe dream right now, but 6 months ago so was the rest of this stuff I've gotten! Do you have any pics of your truck?

Not yet. I want to go find some mud tomorrow and take some pics. I like it muddy, hence the name. But all shiny isn't all that bad either. I want to get it covered in mud and then put my clean 4 wheeler in the back, when its back together. I saw the jon berret thread. It maybe an option soon. I will be working in annapolis soon though for tate bmw, and tate chevy is across the street
We need to all get together this summer or something like that, kinda like the texas boys do but not as big obviously

Yeah, my nephew's father has a place on Benson Avenue called F-Body Central. They do all performance work on LT1 and LS1 F-bodies (camaros, trans ams) and Vettes. He told me about a thing they were going to do at Capitol raceway this year with LS1 and LT1 car and trucks. I'll keep you posted it should be a good time. There are a couple other guys on this site (car guys mostly) that I have talked to who I'm sure will be there.

I'd go with a aftermarket cam and springs,a 6.0 can use a bigger cam than a stock Z06.I'd consider a Comp 216/220 .525/.532 114 with 918 springs and titanium retainers. That size cam would require minimal tuning in a 6.0 just raise the rev limit and let her rip.

Thanks for the input Whitt. Could I use my HPPIII to raise the rev. limiter high enuff? And would that be the only tuning issue? I really don't want a SES light coming on if I can avoid it. I do intend on getting edit, but its gonna cost me as I don't even have a laptop and I will want to get EFI live as well.

You'd be better off going with HPTuners.com . You'll be able to edit and have a scanner all in one.
