Default Cam question - not another newb which cam q though

I have the cam installed (212/218) and at very low speeds, 0-about 8 mph the truck has almost a jumpy feel like the tranny is shifting. I think the converter is just locking and unlocking. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I know the lockup rpm's can be changed and if so should i bump them up? Thanks for any input

I think I know what your talking about. But I dont think that happens at that low of an RPM. Just at cruise speeds when the verter is actually locked. Mine does do the locking/unlocking deal sometimes when driving. Sometimes the converter wont lock at all. I really need to update my Edit cable....... You might need to change the threshold for misfire detection. If that doesnt work you need to kill the misfire code with Edit. The constant detected misfires are whats making the verter act funny like that.

It may be a tuning issue due to the difference in air flow at off idle speeds. Its not likely a lock up issue since the PCM doesn't ever lock the converter in 1st gear.

Do a PCM reset and see if it still happens immediately afterwards.

Sounds like cam surge...

My TR220 did it fairly often when rolling in slow traffic or just cruising through a parking lot... I actually liked it. (It's a "brup...brup... brup... brup..." kind of thing when you hold the throttle steady.)

This one will do it just a HAIR if you hold the throttle at very low RPM's - like 800 or 900 or so.

It can usually be tuned out through trail and error type work with Edit or HPT. I think it may be hard to weed something like this out with a mail-order tune... (it can be done though), and I don't think something like a HPP3 or Predator will touch anything that would fix it.

The convertor lockup parameters are based upon throttle angle & mph., engine rpm has no bearing on TCC solenoid operation. One of the things you failed to mention was cam LSA & LIFT. I have the Comp 212/218 114 lsa .532/.539 & I had a little trouble with low speed cam surge. This was a direct result of the cam causing the iac to search for desired idle rpm.

I had some of the issues with mine that I was able to correct with ls1 edit. I noticed you are getting a tune so that will take care of it.
