Default cam recommendations

I'll be getting a set of 5.3s from WCCH shortly, and a FLT level 3 or 4, with a 2600 - 2800 converter.

I am looking for a good, VERY torqy, cam. Its going in an 02 Z71 DD, I am not looking to spin the motor to 6K. 4500 max.

The heads will have a mild port job (stage 1), and be milled for about a half a point of compression. I don't know the specs of the cam, but I know I want to be able to hear it at idle, and the real important thing is that I want a GOOD HARD PULL from idle up to about 5K rpms. I guess that means that the cam needs a tight LSA. (I think Im right in saying that)

What do you guys recommend?

PS - staying with the 373s, for mileage.

with a 2600 stall you want to stay at or below 220 cam sizes

for anything over you want 3000-3400 stalls so factor that into your thought. Ask rochard at WCCH and he can help you pick

Its gonan be hard to get a torqy cam and hear it.. most torqy cams are small in size. 208/216's and etc are torqy

bigger cams lose low end and you want stalls for them. those are the cams you can hear

with those heads id either get a 2600 stall and a 216/220 or 218/220 114 or 112 LSA(112LSA for choppy idle)

or a 3000 stall and a 220/220 or 222/222 cam

just my 2 cents

I contacted comp about a year ago and they suggested a custom grind 214/220 .559/.564 112LSA. Similar specs to the comp 216/220 with more lift and more chop.

If I decide to keep my truck, this is what I plan on using with a 2600-2800 stall converter.

Moze has this cam for sale, which looks pretty good, as I intend on going with shorties. I am wondering about the LSA putting the power band up too high. does anyone have a dyno graph of this cam?

With that LSA, you will not be able to tell it has a cam in it. The good thing about that cam is it will give you a broad torque curve throughout most of the rpm range.

If you're only looking to spin it to 4500, you need a smaller than stock cam.

If you're looking for a torque cam with WCCH stage one heads, check out my sig. The VHP 062 (210/218, .551/.551, 112) made 316 hp peaking at 5200rpm, and 351 lb-ft at 4400 rpm. I have it on a stok converter, but a 2600 would be perfect for it. It's just too small for me know, so it's coming out.
