Cam selection for the LQ4

Option 1 looks good as stated, but since you changed your mind on a bigger converter (3200-3500) you can go a step above the 223/227 if you wanted to.
They always say go 1 step above you were planning on, especially if it is a very mild cam to begin with. More than likely you will have plans to change it sooner or later down the line.
What about a 226/230 or a 228/232 or somewhere in that range with a 3400-3600 converter? The intake side is still pretty mild and the cam is hardly bigger than option 1. I just think you should go at least a hair larger than 223/227.

Who's grinds are those, they look familiar? I like the first grind for my LQ9 which would be going into a 99 rcsb 4x4 which is my daily.
First thing that I would do is lose the 3.42's...also, what size tire are you running and what are your intentions for the truck and your goals?

Simply put, I wanna go fast , I am new to the truck (racing) so I do require some guidance.

So I sent these cam specs (232/234 .610/.614 LSA112 I will go 3600-4k stall) to Lloyd Elliot and this is what he had to offer...
"WAY too much duration.
Fine for a 3600 lb F body or Vette with 3600-4000 stall spinning 6500-6600 RPM but you want a cam that comes in MUCH sooner and has more low/mid range TQ than that.
4.11 gears are great for the F body and that cam but a F body has a 25-26" tire and yours should be much taller than that. The 4.11 gears are a good idea but just make sure you understand the difference in a F body with 4.11 gears and 3600-4400 stall compared to what your vehicle is.

Any input?

I would say he is correct.. Our trucks are not light.. We need to get them moving.. Donkey dick cams are not the answer... A nice converter with a mild 22x-23x will do fine.. Remember bigger isn't always better, I don't give a **** what a women says

I think that a lot of peopel over cam these trucks.
Check out this thread:

13.1 (granted it was in great weather) with a 216/224 and a 3000 stall... thats impressive. I had a cam spec'd by patrick G as well and he had came back with a 222-226 for my LQ9 crew with 4.10 gears and a similar 3000 stall. I know my truck is heavier, but I'll be absolutely psyched if i can pull off the same times Dan has with similar mods. I think the only reason mine came back with slightly larger specs is the higher compression of the LQ9 as well as the shorter 4.10 gears.

Yeah, which is why I was in good form with option one, as I felt option 2 would better suit a car, but once I turned to the form for some suggestions several members suggested a low 23x cam. I poked around a bit and saw several people run the Torquer V2.
