Cam Selection Part 2
Now that I am back in business , I can get a new cam.
What would be the best selection of cams for a lightly modded 4.8L.
I have access to nelson ls1edit tuning, so tuning issues shouldnt be a problem.
Something with a nice amount of torque and strong within the midrange powerband would be ideal. Also would like an aggresive lopey sound to it.
Any suggestions. Id rather not get a custom grind cam, but all comments are welcomed.
thanks guys.

I'd hold out and see how fast4.8 likes his new cam.
On a 4.8, I'd go with a custom comp something like a XE 210/214 high lift 114sa. If you don't care about low end power, go bigger. Ask Scream about the 212/218 in his 4.8.

The low lift 212/218 in my truck was down on low end power. I did, though, have the stock converter and 3.42 gears. The truck didn't lope too bad, and was driveable w/o tuning.
The only thing about running this cam w/o tuning is that you can't rev it all the way to 6500. I picked up 0.3-0.4 in the 1/4 just from upping my shift points to 6500. Should you do that with stock rod bolts? Probably not. But, that little 4.8 would RIDE OUT from a 60 roll. Ran a couple of LT1 Z28s from high rolls and hung with them pretty good.
All in all, I think that the 212/218 low lift is a good cam that will get you results without REQUIRING tuning, but should really be tuned to get the most out of it. I'm sure that the larger cams will require tuning.
