Default Cam swap

Has anyone done a cam swap in a 5.3? I read u can swap a LQ9 cam in a 5.3 without having to reprogram the ecm. Said u end up with a 5.3 H.O. Crate engine. was wondering if anyone had issues doing this. Also said u can swap heads any thoughts on that. thanks

using the search key would have given you ALL the answers to your q's, but I will do my best...
-The LQ9 cam is the same as a LS1 cam and is a direct fit into a 4.8 or 5.3...It will net you a little hp but way better off with a 212/530 cam if you want a "mild" cam imho..
-the LQ9 317 casting heads would lose power on a n/a 5.3 due to there larger combustion chamber(around 72cc vs 61cc approx) just get a perf valve job and mild port on your heads with that small of cam...
hope this helps

There are much better options than the LS1/LQ9 stock cam. I dont think anyone has swapped cams on these engines, you may be the first!

exactly what i was thinking, why would you do a cam swap? these 5.3's are so powerful stock

if you really want to feel some seat of the pants difference in power, throw a tornado in there

an lq9 cam is not going to net you 280 let alone 350-400, you might wanna do some more reading on guys that are in the 350 hp range
