I just changed my timing chain during my cam swap (52000 miles). Unless some other mod requires removing the oil pump, DO NOT DO IT!!!! If you have to, be SURE you have a couple spare oil pump O-rings (about $6 each at the dealer) BEFORE you start. They are very soft and much thicker that a standard O-ring, and will tear if you look at them funny. Put plenty of Vaseline on the pickup tube, the O-ring, and the inlet of the oil pump.
You will need to loosen the oil pan so it will drop at least half an inch to reach the pickup tube bolt.
This article show really good detail, and I used it for my guide.
If you are going to remove the oil pump, you may as well put a ported one on there.
