Default Cam Swap Poll...

I stumbled across a super low mile LQ9 Yesterday for a real good price so I couldn't pass it up.

So now I am going install my TBSS intake and 90mm Throttle body on my 5.3 and run it for a good while I build my LQ9. I already have full bolt ons with 2600 stall, 3.73 G80.

Cam and springs currently installed, custom ground version of the Vinci trucker with LS6 springs
216/224 .551/.551 110 lsa

I am kicking around the idea of installing a TR 220/220 .551/.551 112 lsa

I do not want to swap my springs ect...just a simple cam swap to run in my truck. Trying to get a little more out of it while i build my 6.0. Don't suggest a bigger cam with a lift that the LS6 springs can't handle

You think the TR220 will be a noticeable gain in power...or should i just leave well enough alone.

There will be a gain, but as to if it will be enough to warrant the swap is another thing. If I was building an LQ9 that is going to happen any time soon, I'd just leave it alone. To maximize the TR220, I'd want a little more converter than the 2600 that you have, not that the 2600 won't work, just that the 3k will be better. If you're getting the TR220 used at a great price, then go for it, but if you're paying full boat, I'd put the dough into the LQ9...buuut, with that being said...

I have an LQ9 planned, it's just taking forever due to funds. I have a line on a Lunati 212/218 113 low lift, which would be more of a jump for me than what you're planning, but not a lot. As soon as I can get the dough I'm buying it if it's still available to hold me over until I can afford to put the 6.0 together. My converter flashes to about 3k though, and would be a little better matched IMO.

Thanks for your input Bud.

I might do it or might not...For what i can get the TR220 for I think I can resale my cam now and get most my cash back, so I might do it.

My biggest concern is the possible power gains??

My LQ9 probably won't be ready for install until summer or fall...I want to build it right the first time and don't want to cut any corners.

Well, more duration, TR lobes, your choice of LSA, and the TR220's proven track record in a 5.3, I'm sure that you will feel a positive difference, not to put down the Trucker by any means, as it seems to work well in both 5.3's and 6.0's. What gears are you running? Seems that the TR220 usually works well with a 3k converter and a 4.10 gear with a 31" or shorter tire...

I am running 3.73's with 30" tall tires on the street and 26" tall track tires. My converter actually flashes to 2800 - 2900 and will foot brake 2300ish with the slicks on.

I'm really leaning towards the switch and selling the trucker. Don't get me wrong the trucker has great power down low and pulls great up top to. Won't be until Mid to late Jan. before I am off my crutches and can do the intake cam swap.

Sounds like it will be a nice setup then, you can't deny the TR220's proven track record
