Cam swap update
Well Ive got everything swapped now, I started at 10:00 yesterday. Worked till 3 and started back up at 9:30, worked until 1:00 last night and got all the valvsprings swapped. Started to work on it again today at 8:30 and Im stuck right now because I neded to go to the hardware store, but I done have a ride for another hour and a half.
Everything has went fairly smooth other than I dropped a cam retainer bolt into the oil pan AND then the pen magnet on the #8 cylinder(yeah the farthes ****** one back) broke off when I pulled it out after I got the cam in yesterday afternoon Took a long *** time to get that out of the head and I wasnt about to pull the head. Luckily it was only about 1.5" from the top of the hole and I got it with another magnet and needlenose pliers last night around 11:30. The bolt in the pan I got out easily with a magnet.
All I have left to do is get the pulley on, waterpump, belt, fans, connect some hoses and fill it with oil. Hopefully be done around 1:00 today.
I think If I do this again, I will get it done much faster. Its really not very difficult to do. I ended up getting the crowbar style compressor from Napa and it wors well. I dont think it is worh buying a $100+ spring compressor, this one works great for $16. Total time it took to springs was about 3.5 hours, and this was my first time tearing into this engine.
