Cam thread
If you had "the money" for a camshaft, which one would you choose? Lets keep this to .050 specs. I dont really give a turd about what the F-body guys would use, so thats why I posted here. More interested in the truck guys.
For the sake of your decision, please give detail on why you would choose the cam. Whether is has to do with your setup, driveability, power, power adder exc.
So, go ahead, name off some cams and thoughts. Don't be shy

I would go with a TR224 on a 114 just in case I want to get blown in the future. I currently have a 212/218 on mine and I think it's very mild. Drivability would not be that much of an issue since I don't drive my truck on a daily baiss.

I'd go with a custom grind. I've been thinking about a 220 216 XER / XE combo on a 113 straight up. My heads flow really well on the exhaust side so I don't need that much duration there. Going with the bigger more aggressive intake lobe to help idle and boost power.

Its gonna take me some time, but I'm going to Ed for a custom grind.
Still gotta get the stall, heads, intake all wrapped up first.
Im guessing your going to go to Comp Cams for your camshaft? BTW, are you currently using Comps 218/218? Do you know what lobes that cam uses? XE?
I'll be sure to tell you how it goes. I believe Ed uses pretty aggresive lobes so that should really help out the stealth appeal.
Tib, I was more interested on what you guys are doing with your setups. Guess I should of put this in the lounge since I meant it to be more a chat.

IF i had the money just laying around I'd go for the T-Rex comp cam, 4400 stall, and some serious tuning.
I just want to see what kind of power an N/A 5.3 can make, and how fast it can get down the track.

How many truck guys have ever tried a really big cam? If you had a big enough of a stall I would think that drivability should be fine, and with enough of a stall you would still be able to get off the line well even with the loss of bottom end torque.
With that being said, on my LQ9 I would probably go either OVERLY large like G5X2 with a 3000-3400 stall, or mild blower cam Just depends on the amount of $$ that I decide I want to dump into it. Don't know if I could see going with a mild cam(unless I went blower), because I would want to get a bigger one later.

you can run a big cam with a blower/turbo, some guys are running 236 cams with turbos, i dont know what your definition of big is, some guys are running tr224s, which isnt that big to me, its all in what you want, if you dont mind having to wind your motor up to 3500 before you start making good power then you need a t-rex or soemthing like that. if i had lots of money i would spec the cam very last after i already had a built motor and everything was the way i wanted it,
