I could not be happier with my 210/218 .530/.530 112 right now.

It's all torque, at any amount of pedal, at any RPM... even on a stock 'verter and manifolds.

I had that 'small drag cam' in before... the TR220. It was nice, just not my bag of chips. I'll never look at another drag oriented cam for a long, long time.

marc_w, do you think that your opinion might have been different if you had headers and a stall? What did you really dislike about it?

Aaron, That's a real good question...

I was pretty well conviced before that spec wise, that the 220 was going to work well for me. Not much was going to change my mind. After I got it in, what Joe Vinci said in this post really hit home with me.

I think headers would have helped by adding more power all over... and the converter would have helped with getting off the line - but the cam still didn't really come alive until I had 4K on the tach. I think this one is much better for that streetlight to streetlight stuff that Joe mentioned. It's 'alive' at all rpm's...

What I disliked - it just felt like I had to beat on the truck to get power out of the motor. The motor liked a heavy foot -- kick it down everywhere, and you'll be rewarded. Try to just take it easy, and you were disappointed.

Power on the highway (2000-2200 rpm) was slighty worse than stock. I towed with it, and it wasn't BAD, but it wasn't great. Slower on the lowened, but pulling well up above 3,500.

I had a lot of valvetrain noise too. I felt like it subtracted from the valve of the vehicle.

My cam was a custom grind from comp cams......I will have to say that it was not the best cam without a tune and a stall, I installed it before I got a stall and a tune and was running a 15.3 et. I now run a 14.70 with my stall and tune, but I can't use my stall cause I get no traction I am also a peg leg. Brent at TEA watched me run and said if I got traction I could get low 14's. I have a 2.3 60' at best right now.

Wouldn't you spec the converter last, after you found out where the cam's powerband was?

You have a bunch of really good points. If I towed I would definately never get a big cam. Have you gotten any dyno #'s or times with your current setup?

Also, was your TR220 on a 112, or 114 LSA?

obviously that would be part of "getting everything the way i wanted it to be" i was mainly talking about the motor, not the trans or rear axle. stall isnt the only non engine related thing to consider when building your motor for what you want to do, what good is it to put a t-rex in with 3.42 gears. youd almost always be out of the powerband when cruising, probablly have alot of surging problems, and lugging the motor. i dont see how that related to what we were talking about.

It will add about 2 degrees duration for every 1.0 more on the rocker ratio. so you are probably around +3 degrees on intake and exhaust
