Not saying that the crane power tuner is a bad product, it actually looks like a lot of r&d went into it. But for the money, ~400 dollars, i could get a nelson tune that would allow tuning of many more parameters that the crane cannot do.

I drove my truck for a year with that cam and no tuning at all. I had to drill the tb out a little to get it to idle right. When I installed the 6.0L with this cam I adjusted the TB screw. If you adjust the screw you have to reset the TP% to 0 or it won't return to idle.

Here is how to adjust the TB screw

I am an ASE master tech and also an advanced level specialist and I will be the first to admit that certifications alone doesn't make a person a great mechanic. I think that cam will be fine for you on the stock tune, you might have minor idle issues like dying once in a while, but with a tune you will be fine for sure.

It allows the use of higher flow injectors up to 120% larger than stock. It compensates for tire sizes in 1/4 inch increments. You can increase idle speed in 50 rpm increments up to 300rpm over stock. (No need to drill holes in the throttle plates). You can shift the advance curves + or - 10% to compensate for exhaust restriction. It can be tuned for regular, mid grade or premium fuel. It allows shift point change and shift firmness change. No matter what sequence of key strokes you use, you can't screw anything up. It's a great tool for a lot of people who don't have access to a competent tuner or who don't want to spend the money on a custom tune. It is an extremely competent product for it's intended application. All I'm saying is don't bad mouth a product or someones work when you don't know anything about it!
I see what you are saying, but I really don't think any harm was meant. I have been waiting for someone to try the Crane tuner and give some feedback, as I am very interested in it myself. I have a HPPIII right now, and as bad as everyone talks about them, I love it! How can I complain about it when it knocked a half of a second off of my ET (on a pretty much stock truck w/ exh. and intake) and it allows me to change my speedo to compensate for the use of 17" wheels in the winter and big ole' 20's in the summer (almost 2" taller). I have a cammed' 6.0L that I will be installing after I get back from vacation in August and "hopefully" won't have any idle issues. That is why I was thinking of switching from the Hypertech to the Crane. I know I can recoupe at least $200 for my HPPIII off of Ebay. Does the Crane tuner lock the vin once its used, where you can't return it to stock and sell the tuner??...or is it like the HPPIII where you can put the factory tune back in the truck and re-use it on another vehicle. That is one thing I like a lot better about the HPPIII vs. the Predator or Superchips where you can only use them on one vehicle EVER. I think the Crane also has a OBD-II code reader as well doesn't it. Any info anyone has on this will help aid me in my choice, as LS1edit is probrobally still a bit down the road, as I don't even have a laptop, and I don't really read that well ! Like I said, some people do jump awful fast at condeming a product they have never used, and some people just go with the flow and recite what they have read over and over, I think that's why no one around here likes the Hypertech. Anyway, I really don't pay that much attention to those comments, nor become offended. A lot of times things are "written" on here in one "tone" and "read and interpreted" in another....it's hard to tell the tone of someones' voice in writing! Also, I know alot of people push a tune from Allen because he really knows his **** and has been SUPER HELPFUL to many people on here going out of his way to help whenever he can, so people like to praise him and promote his services...which I think is a great tribute due to anyone who provides such a service. Will I buy a tune from Allen??...probrobally not...but that's not because I don't think they are worth it...I just prefer to go about it in a different way...be it right or wrong...its how I roll, and I don't condem others for their choices as I don't expect to hear any **** about my Hypertech.

An expert with a dyno might get 2 or 3 extra HP on a given day, but I doubt his tune would be any better over a wide range of atmospheric conditions. But then what do I know. I have only built a carburetor that won the Daytona 500 once and I've had several national record holding fuel systems in NHRA including PRO Stock. What would I know!!!
i guess you would know since our trucks run off of carburetion. i dont recall saying a negative thing towards it. i just dont see how its going to give you the verstility of something like hptuners or edit, for 400 you will get more performance out of allens tune or edit than with that crane tuner, if its in a competent users hand. you sure are taking alot of defense to this, nobody ever accused you of being stupid or anything.
