Yeah it will hold for a while if its tuned right, tm in the 2-3 shift is what keeps it alive, lower shift points helps and for sure a window switch if you go n20.

You can't cut the 317 very much. I think down to maybe 66 -67CC which depending on head gasket I don't think will get you much more than 10:3 -10:5:1 . That cam you are talking about sounds ok except for the LSA. You probably need it around 113- 114 on a 109ICL. You definitely don't need that much lift with stock heads. I would get with one of the reputable cam guys in the LSX community, Geoff @ EPS, Pat G, are a couple that come to mind , also Brandon @ Fast Motorsports (fastune.net) and let them give you some guidance on how much to mill the heads, head gasket thickness and get a custom cam for same $$ and you will be much happier in the long run. Converter around the 3000 -3400 range is probably going to work with what they would recommend depending on how much you may tow etc. I like the Vig 10.5 3000 or Circle D 3200 or the Yank Truck converters PT series I think. You aren't going to make power 6700-6800 with truck intake anyway. You would be better off and your stock tranny will last longer if you get something that keep syour shift point around 6200 -6400. Looked at your sig and see you have 3000 converter already so you definitely need to get the cam matched to that and the other thinks I said. Don't buy a cam speced fora lighter car. You will be very disappointed if you don't take the effort to do it right.

I spin mine to 6700 and its making power all the way up. I may end up upping the shift points to 6800.

Yea well you have ported heads and a TBSS intake and long tubes which move alot more air than his will. BIg difference. Like I said he should get the cam cut to work with his combo not someone elses. How can you go wrong by suggesting he talk to an expert about his combo?

Proof that a stock truck intake can flow up high! This was my 06 lm7 5.3, stock long block, intake manifold, and throttle body, just a custom grind 224/232 581/595 114lsa 0 advance, AEM CAI and pacesetter LT's with a cutout.

HP is on the left and TQ on the right, granted the numbers might be somewhat inflated, the power kept climbing all the way to 6500, and might have gone higher with more rpm yet!

LOL well looks like it wont last long. My right foot is made of lead! I always run the WOT switch and want to shift around 6800 but 6500 will do. Yall will prolly see me on here in a few weeks lookin for a trans. I called and TR and he recommended me the lvl 2 cam. I also called TS and they recommended a cam of similar size. I do agree because there are so many cams out there and its alot of work for trial and error. I like to do it right the first time and want to make sure I pick the one best suited for my setup. If the finances allow me I may scoop up some 243's. Porting heads will run me about 700 bucks im sure..

5.3 torque really falls off at about 5k. Still impressive #'s if they are close to actual #'s tho. Y is it that the lift on the lvl 2 is 609/604 instead of 604/609. What does that mean and what is the difference if there is any at all

That means the intake lobe is more aggressive, its a good thing for making some extra tq, my cam was all high rpm Hp, it really didn't have much tq at all, you need a tight lsa and plenty of advance to make some tq.

I've seen quite a few short duration .600'' + have probs with factory lifters. Once you get past 230 @.050 the lift isn't as hard on things. Id keep around .550~.570 med aggressive lobe if it were me. Especially with unported 317's that peak at .550''.
