can i use a 2005 5.3L engine on my 2007 chevy tahoe 5.3L ?
Hey guys,
doing an engine swap on my 2007 chevy tahoe.. i bought a brand new 5.3L engine. This new engine has never been run.. its brand new. Anyways, after i removed the old engine from my tahoe, i started comparing every single sensor on both motors to make sure everything matches.. turns out the 2007 5.3L engine has ignition knock sensors on both sides of the side block.. and the new engine (the one im supposed to put back in) does not have these sensors on the side block.. and i came to realize its an older block.. its a 2005 block. Also, the front cover plate on the 2005 engine, does not have a cam sensor on it, and my 2007 engine does.. my question is, can i use this 2005 5.3L engine and throw it in my 2007 tahoe? Is there a way to go around these sensors? Thanks in advance

Simple answer is no.
There is even more different than just what you see. The 2005 block is a 24/1x engine and the 2007 Tahoe uses a 58/4x crank/cam trigger. Your computer in your truck would never be able to run that engine as it sits.
Finding the correct GEN 4 block is a far easier solution to getting it running.

You would have to get the 58x reluctor swapped over to that 2005 Crankshaft. And get a 4x Cam sprocket and reuse your front cover with the cam sensor in it.
That would the the bare minimum to just get it to run. Then you would need to find a half suitable place to put the knock sensors on the side of the block.
The 2005 block would also need your grey crank sensor.
There is no easy way to go about doing all that if you have never been inside a engine before.

Not sure if you just ordered it for a 5.3 or 2007, but your model is considered NNBS. The previous model was a NBS that ran from 99-06/07 classic. In 07 they made both model pickups, NBS and NNBS body styles. The SUVs were not a split model that year, and in 2007 the SUVs were only NNBS models. As others have said the engine is for the previous NBS model. Just a few small differences that kind of screw you right now. My point is, that if you by chance ordered that for a 2007 Tahoe, then it would be whoever's fault you went through, and they should be responsible to fix this eating the costs. In the future, it might help to verify or order parts for a 2008 Tahoe. The Silverado would definitely be the same year, and I don't think there were any changes.
