There's a guy @ pickuptruck.com that has an Avalanche that was smoking like hell. Here's the old thread, check out the pics!:

You could try emailing him and see if he ever got it fixed.

There was a TSB out for this. Something to do with a revised PCV system. Otherwise oil in the intake is normal, how much is a different story.

Can Oil Puddle in the intack of a 5.3 Engine?????
Hi Gang!
I have a 2002 Silverado and it smokes if you rev the engine after two or three minutes of idling.]
I have taken the PVC Valve out of the engine and put it in a bottle with two small holes in it with foam raped around the PVC Valve to keep dust from getting sucked into the Engine.
NOW QUESTION IS CAN OIL PUDDLE IN THE INTAKE OF A 5.3 ENGINE ALLOWING IT TO STILL SMOKE IF YOU REV THE ENGINE AFTER IT IDLES 2 OR 3 MINUTES?
I have driven the Truck for a week like this about 30 miles a day and it still smokes after I let it Idle 2 or 3 minutes.
I have no Cats on it if this matters and I am using O2 Simulators to fool the computer into thinking I have cats.
The Dealer says Wait till it gets 10,000 miles on it before they even consider doing anything.
I know I have asked you guys many times about this. I DON'T MEAN TO MAKE ANYONE MAD AT ME. I AM SO AGGREVATED ABOUT THIS IT MAKES ME SICK TO SEE A NEW TRUCK SMOKE. IT IS ALSO EMBARRASSING TOO!
If oil isn't getting in past the PVC Valve then where else in the engine could this occur?
Thanks Guys!!! Lee Stroud in West Virginia! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
