Default Can you tow with a stall?

I have thought about putting a stall in my truck, but I do still want the ability to tow a boat. I don't tow often, but the ability to is needed. I also like to go and play offroad sometimes and think a stall might really help out cleaning the tires. I know a SC or STS would be better but I don't have the $$ for that. Also if I do go with a stall, how much $$ am I looking at spending on that. Any help is appreciated.

They make towing converters. Depending on the stall, it could actually help you tow, bringing you into your powerband.

Higher-stall converters make extra heat when the clutch is unlocked. Keep it cool and towing the boat should not be a problem. Use a larger trans cooler and do not use electric fans.

Who makes the best for that type of application? I know there is Yank, Vigilante, and probably some others, but I don't know anything about any of them. There is a bunch of info on here about converters, but finding info dealing with the 4l80E is a little harder to find. Also if anyone has an idea on the cost installed I would appreciate it. Thanks for yalls help.

I tow often.I pull a goose neck horse trailer, with horses weighs about 5,000#. I run a YANK 2500 and have no problems. The Yank cost about $600. installation will be $300.at most shops. The 2.1 60" times made it worth the $$ to me.
I'm running a 4L60 though. Call Yank for their suggestions.

most converters have a tow rating. i had a yank 3000 and towed often with it but nothing real heavy. i was towing an enclosed trailer that was about 2500lb's.

I need something that can handle a good load even though I don't tow often but when I do its a good load. I tow an airboat occasionally which isn't super heavy, but the cage creates a lot of wind resistance. Also I tow a our 35ft contender which is around 12K and a whole lot of wind resistance on rare occasions. I really would like a stall around 2800 to 3000, but I don't think that I can get by towing with a stall that big.

2500-2600RPM is the most I would consider with those towing needs.

Okay to use electric fans with a high-stall torque converter, but not while towing anywhere above more than about half the rated towing capacity.

Electric fans cannot move anywhere near as much volume as a locked clutch fan.
