I understand the directs going up...that seems to happen on most trannies I mess with and the ODs also in there.

What clutches did you/are you planning? BW Tans, Rays Blues, Alto Reds?

I just went with regular old bw clutches. Too broke right now for all that fancy stuff. If it will just make it through the rest of this season......

The 8.1/Dmax bellhousings are almost certainly different. I do know in the Ford arena... there were 460/'Stroke diesel specific E4OD trannies (E4OD is the Ford equiv of the 4L80E) that WILL NOT bolt to the 300/302/351W.

That being said, I will assume there are 8.1 specific 4L80Es...

Ive got a idea I have an 8.1 and a sbc 350 laying around I'll measure both then we will know for shore. My 8.1 looked the same but it uses metric bolts.

When you tear it down at the end of this season...what all do ya plan? Obviously new clutches/paper/rubber but that wide ratio gear set?

Yeah, maybe the wide ratio kit.....will have to see how it launches with the Yank. I havent had a lot of seat time with the '80 -only one track outing and I cant compare apples to apples cause it was a new motor, trans and converter since last year, but I think my best 60 ft last year N/A was 1.67 and it cut a couple 1.69 s this year already so I assume I am making quite a bit more power than last year to 60 ft close to the same as last year, but now with that crappy 1 st gear.

So with the lower gearset I would think the ET s would be better.

Look at this link:, pictures and text 3&4:

All GM bellhousing patterns for chevrolets are the same. Big Block, Small Block, 348/409 all of it. The allison should bolt to a small block no problem with the correct converter spacing.

Hrm, well I'll be damned. Aren't there B-O-P TH350s/TH400s that can't bolt to the Chevs?

Yes there are. Antother one is the TH200's, which have a universal bolt pattern that will bolt to all of em.
