Default Carbing a Vortec intake

Curious if I can build a sheet metal upper intake for a 97 4.3l vortec that will accept a carburetor. The injectors are internal so no need to plug holes. I don't want all the electronics IF I can get away from it, seeing as how its going in an off-road rig. No need for a throttle body and sensors if possible. Give me your guys opinions as t what will happen. Thanks.

Edelbrock 2114 - Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifolds - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Why not just use the Edelbrock manifold?

Notes

This intake manifold must be used with 1996 and later Vortec style cylinder heads (even if they are installed on pre-Vortec blocks). Accepts late model water neck, alternator, HEI, and air conditioning. Has provision for external water bypass.

I've seen those, but this is a budget limited build...I'd rather not have to purchase one of these if its not 100% necessary

I don't know your fab skills, but if you're good at working with sheetmetal aluminum, you probably could build your own intake manifold. BUT, I would recommend that you build the entire manifold, not just try to bolt something onto the stock lower.

The stock mani is designed only to flow air(the injector delivers the fuel), not deliver a fuel/air charge to each cylinder. The theories and operation are different completely.

I'd bet that you could find that Eddy mani used somewhere (swap meets, classifieds, forums, CL) for around $100-150 if you're patient.

OK sounds good. I am very decent with fabrication. Not great but I can manage pretty well. I will keep an eye out for a mani. If I could find one at that price I could stand it. Better than a shitty running rigged intake. I may actually just try it to see what happens. Probably wont even idle with my luck Haha. Whichever direction I go, probably a new manifold, what size Carb would be good to feed the 4.3L? Its pretty much stock, just a real good overhaul and a little head work....nothing major at all.
