carbs are out dated. way to finicly in diff. temps. on day they run nice one day shitty

Only people who complain about carbs are those who can't tune them. On thirdgen.org there are people who get 26mpg and over 300hp with a carb and T-56 tranny. It is true in winter carbs take about 5-10 mins before they are drivable. Most people take this time to let their windows defrost anyhow. Any other problem is not being able to tune a carb and yes they have came a long way since the late 60's. Different venturi design for example. Powervalves are now protected so you don't blow them out daily.
Fuel injection is great don't get me wrong, but the carb isn't the piece of garbage alot of uninformed people make it out to be.

Ditto! The last time I looked in a magazine they had a Motown small block(I beleive thats which one it was or it might have been one of the build ups) that they ran carbed AND FI'ed and the carb made more power.
I wouldn't think of putting a carb on an LS1 just b/c thats what it is. But for my hot rods I WANT A HOLLEY!!!!! Or a Demon.

carbs power most of the most powerfull engines in the world.....look at nascar small blocks, 355 cubic inches (i think) with a single 4 barrel making over 800 horsepower, and prostock, 1500-2200 rwhp with 500 cubic inches NA with a 4 barrel dominator. carbs are where power is but they're not AS street worthy as our fuel injection....but when i get rich i'll be damned if i don't build a 700+cubic inch motor with twin carbs and a hellacious amount of nitrous.

Wow, thanks for the backup guys. I was hoping not to get flamed anymore for the idea of putting a carb on a ls1 in my nova. Just gonna be easier than throwing on the wiring of the fi, considering I just rewired this car from front to rear.

it may not actually be easier mudz....it will definatly be cooler though, you'll have to rig up some kind of gear drive system for a distributer. but it WILL clean up the install and allow you to use braided lines for fuel etc which add the PIMP factor to a cool older hotrod.

I really like the ideal of a carb on a ls1. That will make it easier to put in some older vehicles for some people. I would like to have a carbed ls1 in a street rod. It is much cheaper to build a carb motor also.

Hell yeah on the cheaper part. Think about a 300 hp small block chevy goes for about 3-3500. Go buy a 6.0 with trans for maybe 1500-2000 and buy the MSD crank drive distributor, adaptors for motormounts, meziere wp and drive a altenator of of the crank. Hmm custom headers but shorties may work. T56??? I have the rear to handle it. Moser 12 bolt, 3.73 posi hmmm thinking cheaper. Anyone want to buy a MSD Digital 6 with pro billet distributor Oh and 1 3/4 ceramicoated headers for a 62 chevy 2? Look out ebay!! This idea is sounding better and better, especially the cheaper part. Have to do some research though. Gotta call the pig, he did a t56 swap in his 69 cam. Ok for the serious side, don't get me wrong, I love fi, but something about a carb on an older car.

Mudz if I understand correctly, you won't need any kind of crank drive distributor. The mainfold will come with sensors and controls to fire the coil packs. All you will have to worry about is the carb and mounts. An engine doesn't care what is feeding it air and fuel, just as long as it gets the same amount. The improvements brought around by the LS1 wasn't in the intake or fuel injection areas. The redesigned block and internals make it a great engine.
