You get what you pay for. They are that cheap for a reason. Is saving a couple hundred buck worth having to replace the motor in a few months?

I pull non afm lifters out of every used LS I buy, dismantle, clean, inspect and reassemble. I use them in engines too.... a good lifter is a good lifter. Never ever buy the China versions, although today, even the GM ones are probably all china versions lol.

Ive got a lot of pictures from engines ive torn down with Ebay parts.
Melling, Elgin, GM, and Johnson lifters are the only ones ive never had a failure from.

Pulled a 6.2 a couple months ago for a guy. He used Ebay Lifters and when it come apart it shoved the axle to one side and gouged the lifter bore. Had to use a punch and beat the lifter out the bottom. Trying to save a couple hundred dollars cost him a new Cam Motion camshaft and enough metal went through the oil pump to scare the gears. And took awhile to fix it.

Was oil pressure ok after that? The lifter bore must have suffered some damage!

He said do what i could to fix it for cheap.. So i tore it down and washed all the metal out of the block. Put new bearings in and honed the lifter bores and put a Melling 10296 pump with a COPO pressure regulator spring. I had some Elgin lifters so i used them and a Stock LS2 cam. With 5w20 oil it had 62psi at 230* coolant temp.
I was worried about it so i used 20w50 and it pegged the gauge even letting coolant temp get up to 240*. Drained 20w50 and put 5w20 in it and it would peg the gauge on cold start.

He beats the crap out of it everyday since and hasnt had any problems yet.

Johnson's are trouble free and $440 a set or so. Some places it makes sense to save a buck; the inside of your motor is not that place
Have to agree with spending the money on Johnson lifters. I wiped a cam when my genuine LS7 lifters failed and it cost me a new build. Spent the $ for Johnsons on the new build and have been trouble free
