Default Cleaning engine

Whats the best way to clean up the engine compartment? On my old body style, I just sprayed a couple of cans of engine brite on the 5.7, then hosed it off with a light stream of water. I'm kind of weary on using this method on my new body style though, due to the increased amount of electronics involved. What do you guys think?

Later, Crunk.

cover alt with plastic bag...drench engine in degreaser or carb cleaner(avoid battery terminals)...let sit for 5 minutes then hose off with low pressure. repeat if necessary. dry with compressed air.

cover engine and fire wall with mcguires foaming tire shine(avoid belts)..let stand for 5 minutes and wipe down with cotton cloth.

Believe it or not, I use No-Touch tire **** on all of my black stuff ie. battery, engine cover, brake booster, fuse box, shroud, etc. It looks like new. I rub it around with a rag on the hard to reach spots. Of course if it's real dirty I use soap and water first, but be careful around the coils and top of motor.

So if I wanted to just spray out all the pollen under my hood can I just take a hose to it with no problems? Or will I HAVE to cover something to keep it from malfunctioning?

you dont HAVE to cover the alternator but its not a bad idea. dont use simple green on the motor. it corrodes the alt and brackets.
