Comp 212-218 Cam arrived Today!
Well my Comp 212-218, .529/.532 cam arrived today. I also purchased the 918 springs. I have previously heard that those springs make the engine sound like a sewing machine. The rep at Comp suggested to get the 918's and disagreed with the sewing machine sound. Can anyone clarify how this combination will sound.

If you have any sound to your exhaust at all, you won't pay much attention to it. I ran the 918's in my Z28 and I never once noticed any annoying noise from the valvetrain. I wouldn't be able to hear them in my truck for all the piston slap, that's waay louder than 918 springs!

The sewing machine noise comes from improper pushrod length more than anything. I have a cam with higher lift than the 212/218 you're getting and I also have the 918's, but I have zero noise (that wasn't already there before, like PISTON SLAP!) because I got the right pushrod length.

Av,
What rods did you get? Even the 7.4's are too short. From what Ive been reading and have been told, Thunders rods are actually longer than 7.4" to make up for smaller base circle. Which is what I got.

I got Comp 7.4" pushrods. I was told the stockers are actually 7.36" and the 7.4's would make up for the base circle difference between the stock cam and the new cam.
Comp's hardened pushrods and Thunder's are made by the same manufacturer from what I understand, the only difference being that Thunder's are 5-10 dollars less.
