comp cam 216/220 525/532 114 for 5.3
hey guys, saw one of these cams for sell and i was wondering if it would be a good choice for me and my 5.3. im looking for lots of grunt. i dont race, im rolling on 35's, and i dont really plan on getting a torque convertor. if this cam isnt for me, what about like a 208/216? im still trying to figure out all this cam stuff, so bear with me!

That is the cam I plan on changing to eventually. I have the 208 216 right now, and really wish I had gone bigger. Both cams will move your power band up a bit, so a converter would definitely help out. PCM tuning would also be a big plus, but it should run ok without it.

I had that cam in my 5.3 rolling on 33"s. A mild converter would be great w/ that cam but not absolutely necessary. Like Red2K said, you will lose some low end torque but I did rather like the grunt and lope I got from it.

Springs for sure, as the stockers aren't rated to that amount of lift. I would go with retainers for piece of mind as well as rods. You are looking at a few $100 in parts there too.
That cam would easily pull to 6200rpm. A stall converter would be nice, but as said not mandatory. It will idle very nice too, limited lope.
A nice tune would be smart, but you could get away without it.
I'd say you will pick up about 15-30rwhp depending on tune and exhaust setup. A nice cam for a fairly stock truck.

i have a HPP. i thought i heard at one time that you can send in the HPP and they will custom program it for you if you have a cam or other stuff, but maybe im just hearing things. can you send it in like the diablo and have them create a custom program? of not, i guess i might sell the hpp and get a diablo or somthin. im in san antonio, and i dont know there are any shops aorund here with ls1 edit or anything like that. and i really wouldnt want to have to send in my chip for a custom program...any suggestions?

Hey Crazy Aggie, if you don't end up getting that cam, and you feel like helping a brother out, let me know where that cam is at. I would definitely be interested in it. I'm putting in my 3000 stall, 3.73 gears, billet servos and a shift kit within the next week or so, and I'd love to swap my cam out in the process. LMK
