Comp Cam XR269HR w/ LS6 Springs?

Default Comp Cam XR269HR w/ LS6 Springs?

Just wondering if the Comp Cam XR269HR (216/220) will work with the LS6 springs? I know the lift will be fine cause the camshaft is around .530, but just wondering if the spring seat pressure will cause me any problems? The camshaft specs link is listed below. Thanks.

Do not do this. I was going to do this, but was warned by many people about the spring pressure. I would not run this cam with those springs.

I would run those springs if it were my cam, that was one of the cams I was considering for my LQ9 build (currently on hold due to no funds). I have a set of WCCH Stage II 317's with yellow LS6 springs ready to go. (on a side note, now I'm leaning towards the SDPC/Crane Z+220 <220/224 .551/.551 114> which SDPC recommends LS6 springs for)

I sent WCCH the heads and springs to be built after explaining my intentions to Richard and he didn't have a problem with the combo, and I trust his judgement.

Maybe Richard at WCCH will see this thread and chime in, although I'm sure he's ultra buzy...

I don't know why anyone would want to run springs that do not have the correct spring pressure.

It is not worth it to me. I would rather pay an extra $100 for the correct springs. Yes the cam would work with ls6 springs, but hey if you want to cheap out on it, why not just keep the stock springs in it then.

I'm "experimenting" with the yellows and xr275hr. Only have a month on so far but no problems. no extra noise like some here talk of. be sure to measure lifter preload as comp recomends. I needed .070" shorter than stock pushrods. To repeat, I have no extra valve train noise from stock.
Pay your money, take your chances. That said it would be best to install what the manufacturer recomends.

From what I've read here and on Tech, the LS6 springs have a better track record than the "recommended" Comp springs, and low lift Comp XE lobes do not require as much seat pressure as the more agressive XER lobes. LS6 springs are kinder to the valvetrain and are probably good for 100k or more, depending on how the engine is treated.

One of the great thing about forums, (PT.net being my favorite ), is that we try things and see what works and share information with each other. Alot of guys have run LS6 springs with their aftermarket cams and are still running them. I've had mine on for over 3, almost 4 years and I beat the **** out of my truck daily...I start it up in the winter when it's 0* out and I'm late for work, and just go. They're quieter than the Comp 915's that I removed to install them...makes me feel good knowing that my valves aren't being slammed against their seats when they don't have to Just my experience with the LS6 springs, I like em

The specifications are all out on the table.
You've seen the recommended seat pressures for the cam, you've seen what the ls6 spring can do and what it can't. If you get valve float from not using the appropriate spring, don't say nobody told you otherwise.

So if I decide to use the LS6 springs should I replace the valve seals why I have the springs off. If so, how much are they?
