Comp XR259HR
Anybody run the Comp XR259HR in a 5.3? I'm looking for max torque in the off idle to 2500 range. Curious to see how much better than stock it would be. I'll be adding headers & exhaust also. Truck's cruising range is 1700-2200 rpm.

Word, noticeable improvement over stock. I ran at the track when I was on 33's, and gained 9/10 and 7 mph with this cam and tuning.(16.5@82.7 to 15.6@89.5) Funny thing is that my 60' times stayed the same, but I think that was because I was turning 33" AT tires at the time. You can run this cam without upgrading the torque converter, and use the inexpensive and proven yellow LS6 springs. I'm also running Comp hardened 7.4 pushrods with this setup.
You need a trained ear to realize that there's a cam in there also, it's very stealty. Great for a daily driver, and you can just get in and go, no worries about getting heat into the springs before you bring up the RPM's etc. It's a worry free setup...well as long as you don't smoke your trans like I did lol.
*EDIT* almost forgot, my cam is ground on a 114 LSA as per Comp's recommendation at the time...

I don't calculate my fuel economy too often, but it only seems to change when i drive it hard lol. I once calculated it at about 14.5 mpg mixed, with only bolt ons. After the cam swap and tuning, I drove it conservatively for a tank full and calculated it at 14.5 mpg...so it didn't seem to go up or down. This was back when I was at stock height on 33's...
