I can vouch for the 99 PCM's being poopy, so can 99Silver5.3, Creederado, and a few others I can't think of right now. Those guys swapped their PCM's for 02 versions and are very happy with it from what I hear. I'm gonna be taking a similar route very soon. The only issue is a blinking battery lt that I believe can be remedied by running a wire from the alt to the PCM...or so I've heard.

Almost forgot, I've got 02 6.0 injectors in mine now...it'll run without tuning the computer, but to work properly the computer must be tuned. Direct swap, piece of cake.

parish8 and jlwz71 are a couple of others who will give you the scoop on the 99 PCM.

I'm very happy with the results of the 02 pcm. Have had no problems with it at all, other than the security relearn crap. Now if only we could figure out how to keep the damn battery light from flickering on 99 trucks with new pcms. Hey, I'll take a light over bad performance anyday!

They have some major issues with very bad knock retard and the stock timing is very low. By moving to a 01 PCM, you don't have to deal with the knock issues, as GM has most of the bugs worked out by now. Torque management is more an issue in 01 than 99, but if you have a 99 you aren't making as much power as you could be, so its a wash. TM can be tuned out though. Since the 01s use those larger 24.5# injectors, its easy to swap PCMs and injectors.

My near stock 99 Z71 5.3 dynoed 218 at the rear in 2nd gear. An 01 with similar mods (muffler, hypertech, and K&N filter) will make 30+ more HP than that. A little bit of that power is in the slightly larger cam, but the rest is in the tune.

I told slowprocess to have his 99 truck custom tuned with an 01+ version. I think he's happy with the results. Of course he doesn't know how much the PCM helped since he swapped motors, trans, converter, headers, and exhaust at the same time.

I'm here. Yep the 99 tune sucks. I have done a LOT of work using edit, Tech II and a hex editer to get the thing to run good. Don't waste a year of your time like I did. Get a later PCM or have yours flashed to a later year. Just some sage advice my friend.

So I can just go to the dealership and ask them to flash the PCM to a 00'+ VIN? They will just do this, no question asked? Will this void the warranty

Thanks for all the advice guys
