Crank pulley question
I'm about halfway through my cam and heads install, and tommorow I will be putting it all back together. To put the crank pulley back on do I really have to bake the pulley so its warm, then crank it to 37 ft. lbs, then rotate 140 degrees...... or can I just put it on there a little bit and hit it with the big impact gun. As long as I get it to go on there strait I really dont see why I need to go to all that other trouble. Other guys at the shop have never done anything but just blast it on there with the impact and they said that it would be fine to do it that way. Thoughts?

blast it..thats what ive done a few times..make sure its on straight...ususally tap it into palce with the piece of wood in palce for a even hit...then blast her on with the gun

That's what I do. Just take a longer bolt to get the pulley on about an inch. Then remove long bolt, but new crank bolt in. Put impact gun on. Set to 200 ft lbs and let 'er ride home. When it bottoms out (and it'll be obvious) Let the gun only rattle for a second or two, should be good to go then.

ok thanks. Thats what I ended up doing, worked fine. My new cam is in along with the new 317's (thanks hirdlej). Now I just have to put everything else back together. Should be finished by tommorow.

Good luck! Don't forget about posting up some sound clips. I am thinking of going with that same cam you chose. I want to hear how it idles (hopefully with a exhaust system on and not straight headers)
