Default Curious about towing with a supercharger.

So right now my motor is a gen 4 370ci iron block nitrous motor with rectangle port heads. Trans is a 4l80e with a 3k Circle D triple disc. Truck weighs 4700 lbs. I was leaning towards doing a big Pro Charger a little later down the road. The whole thing with my truck is I want a quick drivable street truck that I can also tow 6000-7000 lbs with. Maybe a lot to ask for but it would be ideal for me if it's possible. Is there anyone out there towing with a supercharger? Do you have to worry about EGT's or really bad heat soak or anything like that?

EGT's shouldnt be too much of a concern as long as the exhaust flows well enough.

Heat soak could be another issue. If you have very long grades with that much weight where you are in boost for a long time it could become a concern, otherwise you would be fine. You will make enough power that you will almost never have to go WOT, certainly not for an extended period.

Ive towed with a procharger and towed fine but became short lived as a procharger is not meant tk be in boost for minutes at a time when pulling hills

Dont even consider a PD as youll lock it up with heat generated from being in boost long periods

As for reference i tow typically 8000-10000 lbs

How do you like your TVS2300?

What's PD? Did you mean PC for ProCharger?

Pd is positive displacement as in a roots or twin screw blower

So it sounds like it's not too great of an idea to tow with any supercharger. I would have a really long steep hill to climb to get to where I need to go with my rock crawler.

I logged 20k worth of procharged miles...during that time ive made some long trips towing
6hrs at times with that much weight with mountains of PA where i was in boost for miles up a mountain

When i removed the blower you could tell it was not happy from the heat it saw

This is why tow rigs have turbos

If you could do it flat and not see boost for minutes at a time id say go for it

I love the TVS. Its a beast. It gives a new meaning to power under the pedal. My goal was to build a street bruiser that puts up times most thought untouchable by a TVS in the past. That said it's not a full on 1/4 mile queen. Street truck first.

If I manage to get the crew cab to run a sub 7 second 1/8 mile at 100+ MPH ill be able to accomplish that in nearly any situation on street trim at the drop of a pedal. There's no lag time... that was very important to me.

Not all are fans. I'm sure George could rattle off 5 reasons why he hates them. They would all be legitimate for what he aims to accomplish. Like anything in life there is no single perfect answer. Everything has its achilles heel...

You're right about the last part. I want the best of all worlds out of this truck but it seems difficult to accomplish.

My EGTs are were alot higher climbing hills when i had my turbo compared to the same climb with my TVS. The catback was the same with both setups. I woukd not tow with a turbo with a gas motor.
