Custom cam ordered
I just purchased this cam:
214/212 .600''/.571'' 108LSA
I spec'd out this grind as a combination of Thunder Racing's Old Man Cam (214/220-115) and Thunder Racing's 220-112 grind. I used the same intake lobe as the OMC, because I wanted a lot of lift, small seat-seat timing, and small duration at .050''. Since duration and LSA give a certain amount of overlap and therefore a certain idle quality, a smaller .050'' means a tighter LSA is attainable while maintaining a 'tune-able' idle quality.
Let me go over that again.
A given duration and LSA give a certain amount of overlap. The bull-**** you read about low LSAs lope hard is only half of the story. The duration is a big part of this and as some have found out the size of the exhaust lobe has a larger role.
Overlap is that lumpity lump you hear. Not the tight LSA. Since, my cam has small .050'' specs, I could squeeze out a tighter LSA. The 108* LSA I chose, puts this cam at the same overlap measurment as the TR220 @ .006'' specs (48*).
So, if overlap is the same... The idle quality will also be, once tuned.
Why a tight LSA? Overlap = power... Especially with the low compression setups that we run. 9:5 aint ****, and... some of you are now familar with dynamic compression ratio. I'm doing a head/gasket swap so with this cam I'll be looking at roughly 8.5-DCR and 10.5-SCR. This and a lot of overlap SHOULD make some mean-*** torque in the 3000-5000 range.
That's all for now... No, I wont help you with a cam... I'm not smart enough for that... Just thought some of you would find this interesting.... BUT, maybe not. We'll see what happens.

We bought a cam for him too, so I can't quite give you a definite answer as far as 'when' goes. I want his LS6 intake manifold.
