Custom Tunes for 2007 GMC 2500HD
I just bought a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 HD to replace my 2004 Chevy 2500 non-HD. This truck has the 353 hp 6.0 engine, it goes like a raped ape, but only after 3000 rpm. The electronics are choking the performance of this engine. I want to get a custom tune to eliminate the torque control management, remove the speed governor, and recalibrate the speedo for the larger wheels and tires.
I called Westers since I had one of his tunes from before and wanted my new tune for my new vehicle (for free - just pay shipping) as was described as a benefit in getting one of his tunes. He needs the computer from the truck as he doesn't have any cores (new style computer). I can't afford for my truck to be down for 2 weeks.
I've tried to email and call Nelson Performance and Jesse at Wait 4 Me, but have not gotten any response from either one.
Are the new handhelds worth their money. I had a Hypertech for my '04, but all that one did was make the engine ping and the trans slam into 4th gear. You can reduce the TCM with the Diablo, but will it eliminate enough to make a difference?
Does anyone out there have any suggestions for me?

I personally would not mess with the handhelds. I know there are several guys like Nelson, Westers, and Wheatley and other independants doing the tunes for these trucks, but your going to get the same answer from them all.
The cores are too much and not that readily available for mail order tunes. You'll either have to wait for the cores to become available, send your ECM out, or get a tune in person.
