Default damn

Noticed my oil pressure was acting fishy driving home last night. 20psi at idle, only 40 at high rpm.

Drained the oil because I was going to try some 15w40 and decided to tear apart the filter for ***** and giggles and managed to cut the **** out of my finger in the process.

Barely 1k miles on this engine

I feel your pain, sorry to hear it. What are you going to change with this rebuild?

First I am going to try to figure out what went wrong. I shouldnt be having this problem. I read something somewhere about locking the converter up causes excess pressure and forces the torque converter forward causing lateral strain on the bearings or something...

Earlier today I was dead set on getting a nitrous kit.....but since I will probably have to put my 5.3 back in while I take apart this thing (truck is my only vehicle), I may just have to go turbo....

If my crank is screwed for some reason, turning my 408 into a 370 would be pretty simple.

Was there any metal on the magnet, or is there just this bearing material in the filter?

Maybe you're right about the crank taking out the thrust faces on the mains. It sounds like the moving parts must be OK. Let us know if your converter ballooned.
