Whats really a sickening feeling is I have to drive 200 miles back home to the stuff to pull the engine

Damn, horrible luck. But I'm sure you'll be up and running.

Is it possible that you damaged the crank with the torque converter incident?

No, that was only with my 5.3. I put the converter on my 408 without any trouble.

I talked to the shop that built the engine and they seem to think a rod bearing is more likely than a crank or cam given how the engine is running.
