drain the oil and check for bearing material. if there isnt any, pull the heads and see what's going on. if everything looks good with the pistons, cylinder walls and heads replace the lifters and put it back together...that's what i would do anyways. i'm just a shade tree mechanic though so take it for what it's worth. in the past, i've lost a plug strap and sent it straight through the exhaust. just a couple dings in the combustion chamber.

Sounds like my 5.3 did with a lifter that turned in the tray.

opend the valve cover , all sems ok , rockers are working properly, valve tips look good , no evednce of a problem on the heads top

got the intake out , no leaks or obvious damage( just checking )

polled the P rods all are stright no bends or tip wear.

took the head off, champers are ok , valves are ok , no sings of damage or bad igntion colors, the normal carbon is there nothing spiecal

turend the crank all cylenders turn and all are looking great , no wear or chrips or signs of contact with anything

filled the cylinders with water two at a time , piston rings seem OK no fast leaks( confirms the compression test )

when rotating the engine the sounds seems to be in the front behiend the timing cover, will pull it off tomorow and see whats the slight knocking that I hear in the front

hope all goes will

a guy at another form sayed they had the exact same problem , and it was the fly wheel ,

going to check it tomorw if i can
