Default Doin' the 224/224 on my 5.3

I see this on here everyonce and a while, but i am actually gonna do it. I have the 5.3 4l60e in my 81. Well the time has come to put some heads and a cam with it. I have the thunder 224/224 and will have some locally ported 5.3 heads with 2.00" intake and stock exhaust valve.

What i need to know is what converter should I go with? I have a 3.73 gear, which i do not guess makes much of a difference. I am trying to get all this stuff together to do it all at once. I think I am still gonna need a 3000+ converter. Any help is appreciated.

My TT3000 seems to be a pretty good match. I have 3.73's also. A good tune is need for the converter, as the shift and tc lock up points are much different than stock.

Ian, how do you like that cam in your 4x4 with the stall?

im putting a tt3000 in my ecsb 4x4 soon and later on I plan on going with a 220 cam. I just wanted to know how your daily driving is with that setup?

sounds like you have a good combination going on. the 3.73's are good since you have a lighter truck than the nbs's. also the 3k stall will go perfect with that cam...

Why did you go from the 3000 to the TB?

I hope that th truck will run some 8.0x's 1/8 mile with the heads and cam. I may be over expectant, but that is what I hope it runs n/a. Still have not ran it since the 5.3 swap.

Its alot of fun doing 4wd launches and such. My setup is just about as far as I'd go for a daily driver. A 220 cam is a good choice since you will need more low end for the extened cab. For a comparsion, must guys with stock or smaller cams lock the converter at 42-45mph. I lock it up at 55mph becasue any lower than that I will be below 2000rpm where its just a dog. But from there to 6400 when I **** pulls ALOT harder.

Oh, and that TT3000 is perfectly streetable, only thing you'll notice is your truck will get louder. With just a converter your truck will roll backwards on slight hills but when you bump up the idle after you put in the cam. It will make up for that.
